This was probably the most useful and delightful (and timely for me) course I’ve ever taken (and I’m old so I’ve taken a lot of courses). It was the perfect mix of vision, practicality, artistry, sustainability, nitty gritty information, and inspiration, enriched by engaged and well informed classmates as a special bonus (great courses must attract great students). Probably all of this largely because the course lead, Chris Magwood, is superb. Despite the fact that he’s a globally recognized and award winning trailblazer, innovator, teacher, author etc., he is down-to-earth, infinitely passionate about the subject, funny, realistic, and – super important – an incredibly clear communicator. I can’t say enough about Chris, the course, and also the Endeavour Center which provided such a great and grounded context, surrounding us with examples of all the different building materials and models of the techniques, and walking the talk by feeding us delicious locally sourced lunches! The grand finale was the drool-worthy tour of Chris’s incredibly elegant eco-house. Last but not least, I’d estimate that the myriad gems of wisdom over the course of two short days probably saved me thousands of dollars and thousands of hours of hassles and confusion. My suggestion would be whether you’re renovating or starting from scratch, if you’re in doubt, TAKE THE COURSE!
