Canada’s Greenest Home
Urban infill meets the highest green standards
2012 Sustainable Building & Design project
An urban infill lot in downtown Peterborough provided the inspiration for Canada’s Greenest Home. We wanted to set ourselves the highest possible standards for ecological building and meet them using local natural materials and finishes. We also wanted to make a high-performance natural building that blended into the existing neighbourhood with an appealing aesthetic that combines modern sensibility with historical precedent. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the results!
Prefabricated straw bale wall panels
Energy efficient building enclosure, achieving airtightness and avoiding thermal bridges
Grid-tied PV system covers all utility costs and provides income
Natural and non-toxic plasters and finishes used throughout
Heat pump and ducted energy recovery ventilation
