Kinark Sustainable Living Centre-2006

The Kinark Sustainable Living Centre was designed by Chris Magwood and built by students at Fleming College’s sustainable building program in 2006.

Located at the Kinark Outdoor Centre near Carnarvon, Ontario, this building created a new home for a wide range of sustainable living programming at the centre. The centre offers a living example of the strategies, materials and technologies for school children and adult groups. The building was the winner of the Canada Wood Council’s Wood Champion Award for its innovative use of timber materials.

Explore the slide show to find out about the building’s earthbag foundation, waste wood structural columns, earth plastered straw bale walls, off grid photovoltaic system, earthen floor and much more…
